One of my philosophies of travel is to have structure with lots of room for flexibility to change plans and take advantage
of unforeseen opportunities. I also want to spend enough time in each place that I have a chance to repeat, to revisit, and
to catch more than a glimpse of each destination.
For the first big trip see "Calendar and map." Fall 2002 plan is still in the works. I hope to start
in late September in Peru: Inca trail to Machu Pichu. Then work my way north through possibly Venezuela, then Costa Rica,
Guatemala, Mexico. As always, tips, suggestions, and company are welcome!

One thing I have decided: having a traveling companion is better. If you want to meet up with me along the way, let me know!
We'll see what we can work out at the intersections of our interests.

Curious where I will end up at the end of all this? I can make no guarantees because this trip might change all the priorities
that now so firmly indicate my return to my adopted home of Oakland, CA.

I still want to go to Machu Pichu, and I still want to live in Guatemala for six months sometime,
have visitors join me for short trips to explore Central America. But as of today, I don't know if the time for all of that
is now. It might better be later, after I get to spend lots of quality time with all of you at home.

Picture of me, Lisa, Darby, Laura, Sonya, and Amy at the White Horse before I left for summer 2001 travels.
Sonya had composed lyrics to a catchy tune you don't want stuck in your head and taught it to the rest who sang it for me
amidst much laughter and joy.
